The Impact o Artificial Intelligence on Islamic Finance and Banking and Industry in Indonesia

Purpose – This research aims to; (1) find out whether the use of AI in the Islamic
finance and banking industry is in accordance with Sharia finance principles, (2)
find out the impact on Indonesian Islamic banks and financial institutions that have
utilized AI technology based on the perspective of financial organizations, (3) find
out how the traditional bank system Shariah can change their system to adapt AI
technology based on the opinion of Shariah financial organizations, and (4) find out
whether the application of AI technology is safe and reliable in the Islamic banking
system from the point of view of Islamic financial institutions.
Methodology/Approach – This study involves a qualitative method which is using
an exploratory research design. The qualitative method is a research method to
investigate, discover, describe and explain quality or uniqueness from the social
impact that cannot be explained, measured, or described by a quantitative approach.
Findings – The utilization of AI technology complies with the sharia principles.
The emergence of this AI technology brings disruption and various impacts to the
Islamic finance and banking industry. What conservative sharia bank needs to do is
to prioritize customer demands and needs and facilitate them with the necessary
facilities. Adopting AI technology in the financial industry especially islamic
financial industry is safe and reliable
